Big Blue Water Filters

Big Blue water filters are a form of whole house filtration system. As their name suggests they are big and blue. In fact they look rather like a waste bin and are available in two sizes, a 20inch version and a 10 inch version. The size of the unit you need will depend on the size of the property. When you are looking to filter water for a whole property, you are talking about volume not jugs of water. The caps come in three different sizes which will depend on the type of plumbing system you have in your home.

Why should you bother installing a water filter anyway? Tap water quality depends on the area of the country you are living in. Some contaminants do not cause immediate problems but over time have been linked to increased rates of diseases such as cancer. Most water treatment plants use fluoride and chlorine to clean water yet both these chemicals are harmful to humans if consumed in sufficient quantities.

Big Blue Water Filters Better Than Bottled Water

So I hear you say, well I can just buy bottled water. And that is an option but think about the effect you are having on green house gases. Not only does the production of the packaging cause problems but so does the disposal of the waste bottles. Adding insult to injury, it is commonly found that almost 50% of all bottled water is not filtered properly so you may be buying a contaminated product. You are definitely not reducing your carbon footprint!

If you have a sediment problem in your water i.e. it contains particles of sand, dirt, silt and/or rust, you will need a sediment cartridge for your new system. This is also effective at treating odor such as the rotten egg smell you can sometimes get, bad taste and chlorine.

You have to change the filter cartridges regularly as otherwise they lose their effectiveness. Don’t be tight fisted as not changing your cartridge can lead to your water supply becoming more dangerous than it was prior to installing a filtration system. The organisms, dirt and other contaminants build up in the cartridge and can multiply. If you fail to maintain your system properly you are just inviting these bugs back into your home.

The O ring is probably the most important part of the big blue water system. You should check it when you change cartridges to make sure it is not damaged. If it is, it will cause your system to leak. It must be changed at least once a year but as often as necessary. You have to use food grade silicon grease to lubricate the cap and the O ring. Don’t use petroleum jelly as it will interfere with blue water filters system.

As a nation we are used to taking our clean supply of water for granted. When you hear of contaminated water, you immediately assume that the problem lies in Africa or other developing nations. But the sad truth is that America is also suffering from a water contamination problem and it appears it is going to get worse rather than better. A lot of people are installing filtration systems into their homes as they can no longer trust the tap water. So when are you going to buy big blue water filters?
